Strong second half leads UT Arlington men to first road win

Brandon Edwards scored a season-high 31 points as UT Arlington shined in the second half, beating Houston Baptist 80-70 on Saturday night.
Besides Edwards, Lonnie McClanahan posted season highs in points with 22 and rebounds with 12.
Reger Dowell — the No. 10 leading scorer in Division I at 22.7 per game — added 18 points for UTA. Senior guard Shaquille White-Miller added a game-high six assists off the bench.
It was UTA’s first road win of the season and the 14th straight over Houston Baptist.
Houston Baptist (3-7) led by three at the half (33-30), but shot a dismal 12 percent (1 for 8) from the 3-point line, allowing UTA (4-6) to stay close.
HBU dominated the rebound battle in the first half, but lost the turnover count 11-5. UTA turned 19 Huskies turnovers into 14 points and outscored Houston Baptist 19-4 in second-chance points.
The Mavericks closed the gap in the second half and tied it at 46 on Edwards’ jumper.
The lead repeatedly changed hands until UTA went on top for good, leading 60-58.
Edwards secured the win, scoring seven points in the final 2:30 to bring it home for the Mavericks.
The Huskies were led by Tyler Russell with 22 points.
