Natalie Ventress scored 14 points and added nine rebounds to lead TCU past Florida Gulf Coast 68-47 on Tuesday night.
The Horned Frogs started fast and closed the first half with a 9-2 run to build a 27-16 lead heading into the locker room. The TCU defense was impressive in shutting down the Eagles offense in the first half.
“I thought we started off with good defensive effort, but we had too many breakdowns defensively in the second half,” FGCU coach Karl Smesko said. “We got off to a really slow start shooting the basketball and dug ourselves a big hole that we weren’t able to get ourselves out of.”
Whitney Knight led FGCU (3-2) with 21 points and made 5 of 12 3-pointers.
TCU (4-1) will next face South Dakota State (3-2) tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Puerto Vallarta.
FGCU will face No. 6 Stanford (5-1) at 4 p.m.
