The UT Arlington women’s basketball team has struggled to start the season, no doubt. The Mavericks have dropped their first six games of 2013-2014 and their last eight dating to last season.

But Wednesday’s matchup against Abilene Christian at College Park Center provides a real opportunity for the Mavs to break free from the losing streak. UTA (0-6) controlled its matchup Sunday with Virginia Commonwealth before letting the game slip away in overtime, 74-63.

Center Desherra Nwanguma had a breakout game in the loss, leading all scorers with 21 points, plus leading the Mavs with 14 rebounds.

Meanwhile, ACU (4-2) has lost its last two contests, to North Texas and to Grand Canyon, both at UNT’s Holliday Hill Challenge.
