Edwards’ career night not enough for UTA men

The UT Arlington men’s basketball team lost its fourth straight games, falling 74-69 to Eastern Michigan on Saturday night despite a career-high 30 points from Brandon Edwards.
Edwards, who also recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 13 rebounds, was one of three Mavericks who scored in double figures with Reger Dowell scoring 22 and Jamel Outler adding 12. It was the seventh straight game in which Dowell scored more than 20 points.
Edwards scored eight of UTA’s first 11 points and UTA (2-5) played strong defense in the first half — holding Eastern Michigan to just 40 percent from the floor in the half — but still trailed for much of the first 20 minutes.
The Mavericks were behind by as much as 10 in the first half before making a late run to cut the score to 42-35 at the break.
Eastern Michigan (5-0), which was outrebounded 34-27 for the game, couldn’t pull away in the second half. UTA went on an 8-2 run to pull within three with 2:22 remaining before forcing the Eagles to the line.
The Mavericks, who shot 47.7 percent from the floor and were 8 of 19 on 3-pointers, would get within three points twice more, but the Eagles were 5 of 8 from the line in the closing minutes.
Raven Lee went 12 of 15 from the field and scored a career-high 38 points, including five 3-pointers to lead Eastern Michigan He did not miss a shot from the floor in the second half.
