The UT Arlington men’s basketball team searches for its first road win of the season at 6 p.m. Saturday against undefeated Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich., in the fourth and final game of the Keightly Classic.
The Mavericks have lost three straight games despite scoring more than 73 points in every game this season. The Mavericks haven’t been able to execute coach Scott Cross’ traditional lockdown defense.
That might translate into a struggle against Eastern Michigan, which beat Cleveland State and Robert Morris, two teams that have beaten UTA in the past week.
EMU is led by 6-foot-7 junior forward Karrington Ward, who is averaging 20 points per game and coming off a career-high 28 against Cleveland State.
The Mavericks would like to get a win before heading to Austin to face Texas on Friday.
Reger Dowell is averaging 25 points per game and hasn’t scored fewer than 20. But the Mavs are allowing 88.5 points per game.
UTA is outscoring teams in the second half, but the Mavericks haven’t been able to start fast enough for that to translate into wins.
