The UT Arlington women lost 74-56 to UTSA on Sunday evening at the Convocation Center to fall to 0-4 on the season.
Senior Laila Suleiman led the Mavericks with a career-high 20 points, while fellow senior Briana Walker finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
“Laila was the only one who played as hard as she could the entire time,” UTA coach Krista Gerlich said. “She’s a fighter. She’s going to get after it and play as hard as she can and we need that every night from the whole team.”
The Roadrunners went on a 16-0 run early in the first half to take a 21-5 lead. Suleiman made three free throws after she was fouled on a 3-point attempt to close the gap to 30-21.
But UTSA made another push to lead at the half 36-24. The Roadrunners surged to a 66-40 lead midway through the second half.
UTSA shot 46.9 percent from the field compared with the Mavericks’ 34.8. The Mavericks made 26 turnovers to only 14 for the Roadrunners.
The Mavericks’ next game is at Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
