The TCU women’s basketball team begins a two-game homestand Saturday night against Texas State after coming off the program’s first overtime game since March 12, 2011, in a 72-68 loss to SMU on Wednesday.
TCU faces the Bobcats for the first time since 2003, when Texas State came away with a 91-80 victory.
However, TCU (1-1) holds a 5-3 all-time series advantage.
Sophomore point guard Zahna Medley, last season’s leading scorer for TCU, enters the game after SMU shut down her scoring chances, especially from behind the arc, hitting just one 3-pointer in the game.
Junior guard Donielle Breaux led the Horned Frogs with 20 points against SMU in a career performance, but left the game early with a calf cramp.
Coach Jeff Mittie said she should be available for Saturday’s game.
Texas State returns six players, including four starters from last year’s squad that saw the Bobcats win just 10 games.
Sophomore 6-foot guard Erin Peoples leads the Bobcats with 13 points per game. Jacqueline Jeffcoat, a 6-2 junior forward, averages 8 points per game. She is the daughter of former Dallas Cowboys standout Jim Jeffcoat.
Texas State enters the game 1-1 after falling at Texas 96-42.
