Despite a career performance by Chad Nack on the mound, UT Arlington fell to Georgia Southern 6-1 at J.I. Clements Stadium on Friday.
Nack (2-3) had a career-high eight strikeouts, but gave up five runs, four earned, on 13 hits in six innings. The strikeouts were a season-high for a Mavericks pitcher this season.
However, the Mavericks (14-18, 5-8 Sun Belt) were unable to get their bats going. UTA managed only six hits and struck out nine times. Travis Sibley was the bright spot, going 3 for 4 with a double.
The Eagles (20-15, 10-6 Sun Belt) struck out 10 times, but also had 15 hits. They pulled away with four runs in the span of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, including a two-run homer by Hunter Thomas to right-center in the fifth.
