Vergil Ortiz needed a little more than two minutes to record another knockout in his young boxing career.
The Dallas-based fighter officially defeated Mexico’s Ricardo Fernandez with technical knockout in 2 minutes, 9 seconds on Saturday night outside the Ford Center. It was the TV opener for the Golden Boy on ESPN fight night outside the Dallas Cowboys’ practice facility.
Ortiz improved to 6-0 with all of his victories coming by knockout. Fernandez fell to 3-6-4 in his career.
The Ortiz victory followed fellow Dallas native Alex Rincon knocking out Zachary Briones. Both came in the first round.
Fort Worth’s David Fabela made his professional debut with a fourth-round knockout of North Richland Hills’ Kashiff Solarin.
