Ryan Lashley ripped a decisive run-scoring single to left in the third inning, and four relievers didn’t surrender a hit the final 3 1/3 innings as the Fort Worth Cats shut down Rio Grande Valley 2-1 at LaGrave Field.

In his first appearance with the Cats (36-29) this season, right-hander Corey MacDonald held the WhiteWings to four hits and a run through 5 2/3 innings for the victory.

After that, RGV couldn’t get anything to fall against the Cats’ Ronan Pacheco, Ben Ruff, Dylan Rucker and closer Chase Johnson. Rucker had the longest stint, retiring all five batters he faced.

The Cats had just six hits off three WhiteWings pitchers combined, with four of those hits coming off the bat of center fielder Oscar Garcia.
