Fast start sends Fort Worth Cats by Rio Grande Valley

The Fort Worth Cats scored eight runs in the first inning and went on to a 9-5 victory over Rio Grande Valley on Saturday night at LaGrave Field.

The Cats had eight hits, a walk and sent 12 batters to the plate as they raced to a comfortable lead.

And it began with two outs.

German Duran, Edwin Gomez and Ryan Lashley loaded the bases with singles.

Then Sean O’Connell hit a two-run single, Tim Alberts singled and Adam Kam drew a bases-loaded walk. Zachary Zdanowicz had a run-scoring single, Cory Morales an RBI double and Oscar Garcia finished with an RBI single.

Matt Horan was the winning pitcher, giving up four hits and two runs in seven innings.

Morales and Zdanowicz each had two hits and two RBIs. Duran, Lashley and Alberts each had two hits.

The WhiteWings threatened in the ninth with three runs, but fell short.
