Ronaldo will join Real Madrid for match at Cotton Bowl

Cristiano Ronaldo will join Real Madrid when it plays AS Roma at the Cotton Bowl on Tuesday as part of the Guinness International Champions Cup, the team announced Wednesday.

Ronaldo, considered the best player in the world, will be joined by Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric.

Ronaldo recently won the FIFA Ballon d’Or, an annual award given to the world’s top player. He has scored 252 goals in five years with Real Madrid.

All four players participated in the World Cup.

A cross from Ronaldo set up Silvestre Varela’s header to give Portugal a 2-2 tie against the United States in the final seconds of group play in the World Cup.

Real Madrid will open the International Champions Cup on Saturday against Inter Milan at Kabam Field in Berkeley, Calif.

The final is Aug. 4 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

FC Dallas falls

FC Dallas’ eight-game unbeaten run ended Wednesday night after a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa of the English Premier League in an international friendly at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.

Aston Villa scored in the 44th minute on Andreas Weimann’s goal and in the 48th minute on a free kick by Charles N’Zogbia.

Soccer in theaters

Movie theaters around the U.S., including one in downtown Fort Worth, will show live English soccer games on their big screens on Saturday mornings.

The simulcasts will start with the opening of the Premier League season Aug. 16. The deal was announced Wednesday by Fathom Events and NBC Sports Group, which broadcasts the Premier League in the U.S. The Palace 9, at 220 E. Third St. in Fort Worth, is listed at as a participating theater.
