Jose Duran hit a sacrifice fly, highlighting a two-run ninth inning to help the Fort Worth Cats to a come-from-behind 8-7 victory over the Brownsville Charros on Friday night at LaGrave Field.
The Cats trailed 7-6 going into the ninth, but rallied.
Sean O’Connell and Adam Kam singled. A ground ball moved both runners up, and Cory Morales knocked in one run with a single. Duran followed with his game-winning sacrifice fly.
On a night when pitchers struggled, combining to give up 23 hits, the lead changed hands five times.
Oscar Garcia, Edwin Gomez, Andres Rodriguez, and O’Connell each had two hits for the Cats. Chris Martinez knocked in three runs, including a two-run single in the fourth.
The Cats broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the fifth, two scoring on bases-loaded walks.
The Cats spotted Brownsville a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but tied it with a pair of runs in the fourth.
Gomez walked and O’Connell doubled. Martinez brought them both in with a single to right field.
The Cats added three more runs in the fifth inning.
Gomez had a run-scoring single and Kam and Martinez both forced in runs with bases-loaded walks.
Brownsville tied the game game 5-5 with three runs in the sixth.
The Cats retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Ryan Lashley, who had reached base on a fielder’s choice, scored on an error.
