Texas Wild wins WTT opener

Alex Bogomolov Jr. set the tone early and the Texas Wild cruised to 23-14 victory over the Boston Lobsters in the opener of the World TeamTennis season on Sunday.

Bogomolov defeated Rik de Voest 5-2 in men’s singles, and the Wild’s Anabel Medina Garrigues and Darija Jurak followed with a 5-4 victory in women’s doubles. Garrigues and Aisam Qureshi won mixed doubles 5-2, and Garrigues beat Megan Moulton-Levy in women’s singles 5-1 for a 20-9 Wild lead.

Boston’s De Voest and Eric Butorac won the final match of men’s doubles 5-2 to force overtime, but Qureshi and Bogomolov then beat them to seal the Wild’s overall victory.
