A tie game going into the eighth inning quickly got away from the Texas Rangers.
And the biggest blow came from Nelson Cruz in his return to Texas. Cruz belted a three-run homer off Shawn Tolleson in the eighth inning, capping off a six-run inning and sending the Baltimore Orioles to an 8-3 victory.
With the game tied 2-2 going into the eighth, the Rangers turned to Alexi Ogando. He retired only one of four batters faced, giving up an RBI double to No. 9 batter Caleb Joseph.
Left-hander Neal Cotts didn’t fare much better, allowing consecutive RBI singles to Nick Markakis and Manny Machado. Tolleson entered and promptly served up the three-run homer to Cruz, who deposited his 21st homer of the year in the left-field seats at Globe Life Park.
Never miss a local story.
The Rangers got a solid starting performance by Joe Saunders, who allowed two runs over six innings. Adrian Beltre and Robinson Chirinos were the offensive stars as each had a solo home run. Chirinos added a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
