The Fort Worth Cats avoided a shutout by walking three times and scoring on a fielder’s choice in the ninth, but they fell to Rio Grande Valley 7-1 on Friday night.
Conrad Flynn and Benjamin Waite combined on a shutout through eight innings, but Garrett Granitz ran into control trouble in the ninth.
Sean O’Connell, Chris Martinez and Adam Berry walked, then Thomas Shull followed with a fielder’s choice, giving the Cats their only run for the game.
Oscar Garcia had two of the five hits for the Cats, who also committed three errors.
