Fort Worth Cats beat Rio Grande Valley for first road win

Chris Martinez had three hits and three RBIs, Nick Thornton pitched a complete game and the Fort Worth Cats hammered the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 9-4 on Thursday night at Harlingen Field.
After the WhiteWings scored twice in the bottom of the second, Martinez had a two-run double to cap the Cats’ four-run third inning.
Fort Worth added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before breaking the game open with three runs in the seventh.
Thornton allowed four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts for his first victory of the season.
The Cats play Game 2 of their five-game series against the WhiteWings at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
