Dallas City FC defeated the Fort Worth Vaqueros 2-0 on Thursday night in the first leg of the Trinity River Cup at LaGrave Field in front of 2,116 fans.

The series heads to Dallas on June 7, with the Vaqueros having to overcome the two-goal hole.

“I thought the team played well. We stuck to our game plan,” Vaqueros coach Mark Snell said. “Overall, pleased. Not many teams can dominate a team being a man down and I think we did that. I think we were a little unlucky; we should have scored three or four goals.”

The Vaqueros struck the framework on two occasions after trailing 1-0 at the half. Dallas City picked up a stoppage-time goal.

Fort Worth’s Tyler Humphrey was issued a straight red card for what the referee deemed violent conduct in the 52nd minute.
