Rio Grande Valley jumped on Fort Worth with five runs in the first two innings, and though the Cats closed the deficit to one run late, they couldn’t dig out of the early hole as the WhiteWings held on for a 10-7 win Wednesday night at LaGrave Field.

Julio Franco scored three runs and went 1 for 4 with a walk for the Cats in the second game of his nine-game contract.

Rio Grande Valley’s Hisashi Kawakaku (1-0) earned the win in relief, allowing three runs on two hits in 2 1/3 innings, and Byron Minnich earned his first save with two strikeouts in the ninth.

Charlie Hejny (0-1) took the loss for the Cats.
