The Fort Worth Vaqueros scored two late goals to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw against the Liverpool Warriors on Sunday at LaGrave Field.
Trailing 2-0 in the 90th minute, Jaime Benitez scored the first goal in Vaqueros FC history when he connected on a direct free kick from 22 yards out.
Minutes later in stoppage time, Fort Worth forward Jorge DeLeon scored on midfielder Ricky Mejia’s corner kick to draw the score even.
“We went out and played our own game, all they did was kick ball,” Mejia said. “We didn’t really handle that very well, but other than that our midfield controlled the game and we played well. We outplayed them in the middle and I think that’s what helped us in the end.”
Liverpool (0-0-1), a North Dallas club, took its 2-0 lead on a penalty kick in the 10th minute and off a corner kick that was headed in by Idrissa Camara in the 74th minute.
The Vaqueros (0-1-1) next match is at Oklahoma City FC on May 23.
