UTA men third in Sun Belt golf

UT Arlington was in position for a trip to the NCAA Regional halfway through the final round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Wednesday in Saucier, Miss., but slipped to third place by the finish.
The Mavs led at the turn at Grand Bear Golf Course, but finished 1 over, two strokes behind Georgia State, which claimed the conference title. South Alabama shot an 8 under in the final round and edged UTA for second.
Joss Gosling finished eighth at 1 under to lead UTA, one spot ahead of teammate Brad Mason, who shot a 2-under 70 in the third round and finished at even par.
Big 12 tennis
The Big 12 Tennis Championships begin Thursday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center at TCU. It will be the first Big 12 championship hosted by TCU.
The women’s first round is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with No. 8 seed Kansas against No. 9 seed Iowa State and No. 7 seed Kansas State taking on No. 10 West Virginia.
Both TCU teams open the tournament Friday. The TCU men, seeded No. 6, take on two-time defending champion and No. 3 Oklahoma at noon. TCU women, also seeded No. 6, play two-time defending champion and No. 3 seed Texas at 3 p.m.
Kentucky basketball: Freshman center Dakari Johnson and sophomore forward Alex Poythress announced they would return next season.
LSU basketball: After becoming the only Tigers player other than Shaquille O'Neal to block 100 shots in a season, Jordan Mickey has decided to remain at LSU at least one more year.
