Jordan Spieth, the Masters runner-up who climbed to No. 9 in this week’s world golf rankings, is among the latest wave of golfers who have committed to compete in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, May 19-25 in Fort Worth.
Spieth, 20, is one of nine competitors among the top 35 in the world rankings on the list to play at Colonial. Others in the mix include Matt Kuchar (6), Brandt Snedeker (20), Jim Furyk (21), Patrick Reed (24), Hideki Matsuyama (26), Graham DeLaet (30), Hunter Mahan (34) and Rickie Fowler (35).
Spieth, a Dallas resident, jumped four spots in the world rankings after Sunday’s runner-up finish to Bubba Watson in Augusta, Ga., that secured Spieth’s first top-10 placement of his professional career. Spieth, who helped lead the University of Texas to the 2012 NCAA championship, was the 2013 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year and finished seventh in last year’s Colonial while competing on a Champions’ Choice exemption.
Other notables in the Colonial field include defending champ Boo Weekley, Vijay Singh, Ryan Palmer, Chad Campbell, Stewart Cink, Corey Pavin, Rory Sabbatini, David Toms, John Rollins and Franklin Corpening, a former TCU and Paschal High School golfer who tied for 14th in his Colonial debut last year.
