With competition for Roy Oswalt heating up the past few days with injuries to Roy Halladay and Jered Weaver, the Rangers moved today to an agreement with free-agent right-hander Roy Oswalt.
The Rangers have not made an announcement, but several outlets are also reporting that an agreement has been reached. Manager Ron Washington and pitching coach Mike Maddux had not been informed of the deal when the Rangers took the field to stretch at 4:15 p.m.
The Rangers had grown increasingly confident over the weekend that a deal would be worked out, even though Oswalt balked at the club's initial offer. Oswalt, 34, likely won't be ready until mid- to late-June to take over the rotation vacancy created when Neftali Feliz suffered a sprained right elbow.
Scott Feldman is making his second start in Feliz's spot and will likely continue in that role until Oswalt is ready.
