ARLINGTON -- The Drive For Five is complete. The Search For Six begins.

Austin Lake Travis quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 293 yards and a touchdown Friday night before 32,314 fans at Cowboys Stadium as the Cavaliers defeated Waco Midway 22-7 for the Class 4A Division I championship and an unprecedented fifth consecutive state title.

Lake Travis (16-0) has compiled a 77-3 record during the streak, under the direction of three different head coaches, but the result each time has been a state title.

"They were expected to win from the beginning of the season, but this is a tough game," said Lake Travis coach Hank Carter. "That was a great team out there in Midway. I'm so proud of our guys, though."

Sealy (1994-97) and Celina (1998-2001) were the only other teams to win four in a row.

"A lot of people don't talk about that kind of thing at the beginning of the year," Carter said. "We talked about it. We knew we had to go make it happen from the beginning."

Lake Travis got on track offensively early in the second quarter, driving 96 yards in 13 plays to take a 7-0 lead.

Mayfield completed 6 of 7 passes on the drive for 90 yards, capped by a 17-yard touchdown strike to Griffin Gilbert with 7:41 left in the half. Mayfield was nearly sacked on the play, but scrambled out of trouble to buy time before finding Gilbert, who made a leaping catch, in the back of the end zone.

Lake Travis was on the move again late in the half as Mayfield guided the Cavaliers to the Midway 9 before the drive stalled and Kevin Marcotte kicked a 26-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead.
