Q: Texas Rangers culture seems to be nurture hitting always and pick up pitching as an after thought. However, I am sensing that maybe with Nolan Ryan at the top we are finally going to really really nurture pitching. Is it realistic to expect the farm system to accomplish this next step or do we have to make a major trade or free agent acquisition to get there....and are we willing to give up what it will take to get a No 1?

A: They can look for the Texas Rangers to develop their own. It's a natural phenomenon that when they draft players they are hitters. Pitchers you have to develop more. It takes longer to develop young pitchers than offense. That's why you see more offense come through here. With Nolan Ryan in charge and the setup we have with our minor league pitching, we'll see more come through the system. We will develop that patience. As fans, they have to be patient too.Submitted by Mario from Dallas, Texas
Q: When will we start allowing our best young pitchers to pitch an extended time period in the major leagues and not give up on them and trade them? Will Nolan Ryan do more teaching with our pitchers?
Answered 09/16/08 14:49:33 by Anthony Andro
A: We're at the point since we're developing within, we'll see our young pitchers pitch more here. With youth, you have to try and prevent destroying confidence. The one place that can happen is at the major league level when you're here and you're not ready to be here. We have to be dilligent in judging the character and know adversity is something they can handle. When we do that, we'll see our young kids stay here.Submitted by Joey Matschulat from Tyler, TX
Q: How would you say you have grown as a manager in your two years in Texas?
Answered 09/16/08 14:47:51 by Anthony Andro
A: The relaxation mode is better. Confidence has strengthened. Tendencies have been overly exposed. The key is I'm never comfortable.Submitted by Steve from Belton
Q: I would like to know what aspect of managing RW felt he was the best prepared for when he took over and what aspect he felt he was least prepared for, and how he has taken steps to get better in that area.
Answered 09/16/08 14:46:57 by Anthony Andro
A: Communication is my strength. I grown leaps and bounds handling the pitching. There are certainly some aspects fans will never understand. There are some aspects I can never expose. So when the hammer falls, it usually falls on me as the manager.Submitted by Steve P from Orlando
Q: Coach Ron- I don't think Orel and Mark did much to upgrade the young arms over the years. Now that they are gone and Mr. Ryan is on board- will we finally see the Rangers developing all those tall HS players they drafted or will we keeping trading them away for parts.??? Good luck in 09.

A: For all we've been through this year with pitching, and having Nolan who is a pitching guy running things, there will be more development within our organization. Patience is certainly going to be one of our virtues.Submitted by Carrie Peters from Fort Worth
Q: About injuries - How open are you compared to other managers as far as injuries go? How open is JD compared to other GMs in the league?
Answered 09/16/08 14:44:36 by Anthony Andro
A: I'm very open. I personally made a mistake trying to protect a player one time but I learned from that. For the most part, you have to be honest.Submitted by Rodney from Fort Worth, Texas
Q: Ron, I know you don't have much time to keep up with the Rangers minor league teams but what do you know or are being told about Neftali Feliz and Derek Holland? They are dominating at every level so far, could they be in the big leagues sometime next year? Thanks
Answered 09/16/08 14:43:30 by Anthony Andro
A: Again, availability will be the key. The main concern is we don't rush them. When they finally arrive on the scene, we want them to be effective. Pitchng in Double A and pitchng in the major leagues is night and day. With their youth, we have to make sure we are right in our judgement when we bring them to Texas.Submitted by bob from arlington
Q: all i got to ask you is why do you leave the oitchers in the game too much when they struggle the last inning there done so dont bring them in?
Answered 09/16/08 14:42:10 by Anthony Andro
A: Availability is the reason most of the time. Who's available is the only way I can answer that. That can cause you to leave a guy in longer than we want to. Our job is not to hurt anyone.Submitted by Mike from Fayetteville, AR
Q: What is the prognosis on Arias' arm? Is he going to need additional surgery to get back to 100% or just rest? Or is it a situation where he will never have the arm strength to play on the left side of the infield from here on??
Answered 09/16/08 14:40:29 by Anthony Andro
A: That's one problem we're certainly trying to address this winter. Getting his arm strength back is necessary for us to see the Joaquin we had before the surgery. We're trying to use him where he can be a service to us at this time.Submitted by Matt from Austin, TX
