h Cheers: To the city of Garland, where the council just decided to initiate a trap-neuter-return policy for the city’s feral cats. Continued jeers to the city of Bedford, where the council refuses to accept studies on the effectiveness of TNR for cat population control and is considering making it illegal to feed stray cats.

h Cheers: And a very sincere thank-you to Dr. Doug Engle in Arlington for saving a broken tooth with a simple filling. I appreciate his efforts and time discussing the entire treatment plan prior to as well as during the procedure.

Cheers: To the Sid Richardson Art Museum for the Take Two: George Catlin Revisits the West exhibition. Catlin’s paintings document the American Indian life in the 1830’s. This sample of Catlin’s paintings is on loan from the National Gallery of Art. Entry into the Museum is free.

Cheers: To the assistant manager, John, at the Wal-Mart in Lake Worth. He went above and beyond to help my husband and me find a swing that we were looking for. He also gave a gas card for making the drive out there, because the Lake Worth store is a long way from my home.

h Cheers: To the Fort Worth Police Department for being there on Tuesday, Oct. 7, to direct traffic at the non-functioning traffic lights at the intersection of Alta Mere Drive and Green Oaks Boulevard. That was never our experience while living in Houston.
Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014
h Cheers: To Kevin Johnston, his wife and two daughters, who were without electricity in their home but collected, bagged leaves, trash and sawed/tied up downed tree limbs in our yard and others caused by 80-mph winds.

Cheers: To Emirates Airline for raising the bar in World Class air travel with their A380 Airbus. Time to “up your game,” American Airlines. The bowl of nuts offered on your aging business class MD 80s is getting stale.

i Jeers: To Mansfield’s planning and zoning officials. Does Mansfield really need four auto parts stores within a one-block radius? Landmark, O’Reilly and AutoZone are already there at the intersection of West Debbie Lane (Farm Road 1187) and Farm Road 157. What the city needs is nice restaurants!

Cheers: To Sheriff Dee Anderson for his Sept. 28 article showing care and compassion toward others less fortunate. It’s proof that he is the only Republican in Tarrant County worth voting for. Or in most of Texas, for that matter.

Jeers: To the Chisholm Trail Parkway. Since it opened in May, it seems that progress on the remaining construction has slowed to a crawl. Meanwhile, traffic congestion in the construction area at South University Drive and Interstate 30 is a nightmare all day long. I guess we need just a little more patience, because the parkway was supposed to be “complete” by late September.
