Cheers: To the Briaroaks Volunteer Fire Department heroes who held their annual fish fry fundraiser this month. The difference this year was that the proceeds were committed to the West Volunteer Fire Department. This event will provide more than $8,000 to begin to restock assets to protect the residents of West.

i Jeers: To Colleyville for giving $2.25 million for a Whole Foods Market. We already have Market Street and Central Market nearby. Why do we need it? I have no connection with any of these and doubt this is the best or appropriate use of our funds.

h Cheers: To Taco Casa on Saginaw Boulevard and the area supervisor, Jason. They donated a case of their hot sauce so that we could send it to our nephew, Jesse Gilbert Paiz, and fellow Marines stationed in Afghanistan. God bless you for your love of our troops who are keeping us safe.

h Cheers: To the traffic signals on the new Hurstview Drive bridge in Hurst. They will make driving much safer in the immediate neighborhood since some folks have a tendency to roll through, or completely ignore, stop signs. Also, many drivers don't seem to know right-of-way etiquette at stop-sign intersections.

Jeers: To politicians in Washington for using families grieving over their tragic loss of loved ones -- even flying them to advance a political agenda. What a shame and disgrace.

i Jeers: To the Texas Rangers fans who mistreated Katie Hamilton and her daughters. Show Josh that we are a baseball town. He should have just thanked his fans for many years of loyalty when he left, but you don't treat his family the way you did.

h Cheers: To the Texas Senate for proposing term limits for state politicians. I believe term limits should be applied to all politicians. If he or she is good enough, one could either wait out a term or run for another office.

i Jeers: To the traffic signals on the new Hurstview Drive bridge in Hurst. They are a huge waste of money. Now we are wasting electricity and causing light pollution, too. Stop signs work great with so little traffic. Jeers to whoever approved the lights.

Cheers: To Dalworthington Gardens Police Chief Bill Waybourn and the other dedicated volunteers for a well-planned and executed concealed handgun license class for hundreds of school employees. From the registrations to the classroom to the gun range, everyone was extraordinarily professional and helpful in guiding us through the process. Thank you.

h Cheers: To Brent and Jim at Woodcraft on Grapevine Highway for going beyond great customer service. I made my purchase, continued shopping next door and accidentally left my purchase there. They retrieved it and met me near my home, saving me a drive back to Grapevine Highway through horrible traffic.
