Red light racket

I recently learned the hard way about red-light camera tickets.

I recently learned the hard way about red-light camera tickets.

Red-light camera fines are punitive, random taxes, costly and time-consuming to dispute, and disproportionately hit those who either cannot afford an attorney or cannot take two days off to fight.

I have seen dangerous and careless near-accidents due to hard braking or hard acceleration on yellow where the cameras are obvious.

I suggest indisputable red light runners be fined more, not the $75 wrist slap.

But right-turn-on-red tickets should be eliminated except in an accident.

Ticketing a “rolling” right turn on red with no traffic in sight, day or night, is a sham and a money grab.

Finally the entire program needs a public vote. It is a tax.
