Cups of cold water

Texas Baptist Men is a volunteer organization that has traveled through Texas and the world meeting needs when disasters happen.

TBM receives no funds from the federal or state government. Individuals and churches give freely to the disaster relief fund.

When the U.S. Border Patrol asked TBM, in May, for help to the huge man-made humanitarian disaster, TBM did not hesitate. They provided showers, clothing, food and yes, many “cups of cold water.”

Yet associate executive director Mickey Lenamon said he can’t remember such a controversy over TBM’s response to any other disaster.

As he said, “If we go around the world to help our neighbors, shouldn’t we help them when they come to us?”

My husband began with TBM in 1997. He has served after tornadoes, ice storms, hurricanes, fires and floods.

I understand the border crisis is a serious issue, but I don’t understand how anyone is against helping helpless children.

May we Christians continue without hesitation to give “cups of cold water” to whomever, whenever and wherever there is a need.
