Duplicative services

Dr. Charles Andrews’ letter (“Don’t fix VA system,” Aug. 8) raises a valid question about the federal government duplicating existing medical services.

Dr. Charles Andrews’ letter (“Don’t fix VA system,” Aug. 8) raises a valid question about the federal government duplicating existing medical services.

Instead of throwing $16.3 billion at the problem, why not limit VA medical services to those veterans with service-related injuries or conditions?

Most of the veterans of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam are already eligible for Medicare, which will provide coverage for their non-service connected medical problems.

Dropping them from the VA client list will free up existing VA medical resources and probably go a long way toward solving the problem without additional taxpayer funding.
