Free-standing ERs

I recently took a tumble in my driveway, landing most of my weight on my forehead. I had a small cut on my head and two small abrasions.

My husband took me to a small hospital emergency room where we were told the wait would be over three hours. Worrying more about a possible concussion, we then elected to go to an ER rather than Urgent Care facility believing I needed a CT scan.

The ER we chose was not busy at all. The nurse asked a few questions, had me track her finger with my eyes and then sent me on to the examining room. The attending PA never made mention about a possible concussion even though I kept complaining about my excruciating headache. They glued the cut on my head and put ointment on my two abrasions.

I kept complaining about my excruciating headache so they finally gave me two Tylenol and sent me home where the headaches lasted for days.

The papers filed with my insurance made no mention of a possible concussion.

To my amazement, the ER billed my insurance over $1900!

I will never again use a free standing ER!
