IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said he had seen no crime at his agency.
He testified that in June 2011 Lois Lerner, the person at the heart of the investigation, and six other people under investigation had hard drive crashes.
Everything was done, he said, to retrieve the information but subsequently determined it unrecoverable so they destroyed the hard drives.
Further, all emails are purged from the system after six months (we must keep our tax records for seven years) because they can’t afford to back them up with a pitiful two billion dollar annual tech budget.
Finally, the IRS waits until June 2014 to reveal the missing evidence despite a congressional investigation with subpoenas and lawsuits pending for that information. Nothing to see here, move along?
No outbound emails were available prior to June 2011?
What about the emails archived for the six months prior which had not been purged?
Nobody involved at the IRS thought to recover those records prior to them being purged? They must think we all just fell off a turnip truck.
