Troubling history

No doubt one of the ills confronting the FWISD is single-member districts.

This cancer annihilates any opportunity for consensus in our political system everywhere we look.

It was advanced as a solution for diversity of representation and has evolved or devolved into confrontation politics adverse to the common good.

Everywhere one looks are elected representatives, self-appointed guardians of the universe, who think humility is incumbent upon everyone but themselves.

With our history, how can we expect any decent candidate to apply for the job of school superintendent?

When we return to mutual respect for human dignity the solutions to our many social ills will magically appear.
