UNT System Chancellor Lee Jackson should resign in the wake of the financial crisis at the Denton campus of UNT.
Recently former Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki resigned his position in wake of the incompetence and fraud on the part of some VA officials.
Veterans suffered and some died from the lack of adequate care. There was inadequate oversight from the Secretary Shinseki. He tendered his resignation because the crisis occurred on his watch.
Under Jackson’s watch, financial officials and staffers misapplied more than $80 million in state funds.
Negotiations are currently underway between the UNT System and the state for repayment of the illegally spent funds. As a result of the refunds, students, faculty, staff and education at UNT will suffer for years to come.
As with Shinseki, Jackson failed to provide proper oversight.
He should follow the example of Gen. Shinseki and step down.
