It’s appalling that developers of new projects are able to ask for and receive tax incentives, and then have the nerve to offer money rather than affordable housing to prevent lower-income people from polluting their projects.
The question arises then about public transportation to bring the workers to the jobs that will be created by the proposed retail and restaurants, and for the service personnel who will clean the homes of the residents.
Also this brings into play the purpose of the city’s Directions Home plan to disperse affordable housing into all parts of the city, which is a mandate from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
If the city plans to use the money to build more affordable housing, where is it to be built? In already impacted areas where there are no jobs?
Never miss a local story.
