America the beautiful

In regards to the many criticisms of the Superbowl Coca Cola commercial in which people sang “America the Beautiful” in different languages, they have totally missed the obvious. While sung in different languages they are all singing the same song – America. That is the commonality, that is the assimilation.

While sung in different languages they are all singing the same song – America. That is the commonality, that is the assimilation.

Critics seemingly want a nation of people who are all the same – a homogenous herd of like thinking people. However, that is not America and never has been. And I hope never will be.

America is a land of diverse and unique individuals, all pursuing their dreams and hopes. Assimilation does not come from wearing the same clothes, eating the same foods or even communicating in the same language. It comes in the one thing they all share — strong pride in a country that allows them, and others, to freely do this. That is what this commercial perfectly expressed.
