Keller Indians: This is our history
I am part native American and have lived in the Keller school district since 1987. I love the name the Keller Indians.
Why should they change just because someone was offended? Why has someone not spoken up about this before now? Everyone is offended by something. Robert E. Lee — they took down his statues and others as well, and even changed the names of schools.
This is our history. American Indians were some of my ancestors. I am not offended. I am of Cherokee blood and I am proud of it. The Indian should still be the mascot.
Never miss a local story.

A row over ‘In God We Trust’
To readers offended by “In God We Trust” on their tax statements (Letters, Star-Telegram; Nov. 30.) Maybe you need to stop using U.S. currency, since it’s written on it too. As to referring to God, it refers to a person’s God as to each religion.

Art is in the eye of the beholder
It was interesting reading about the Bass family paintings recently sold at auction.
But when I saw the painting “untitled” by Mark Rothko selling for $11 million, which was nothing more than an orange canvas background with a yellow square at the bottom, I thought they must have been kidding.
This could have been done by anyone in their garage.

Armed with a toy gun
The idea that the police or the Legislature has any responsibility to prevent people from engaging the police in a shootout while armed with a toy gun is pure nonsense, (Star-Telegram editorial).
Everyone has heard the adage “Don’t take a knife to a gunfight.” If some fool chooses to ignore it, the repercussions are on him. And another law is just one more that criminals will disregard.
When will we get our tax bills?
When will we get an Appraisal District that can get things done on time? After seeing the article in the S-T that many tax bills had not gone out, I realized that we’d not received one and called the tax assessor on Nov. 29, only to learn that it was because they have not received anything from the Appraisal District.
I called the district that same day and they confirmed that it had not been sent and would not be sent until sometime in December, but might not be sent in time to have a tax bill sent by the assessor by the end of the month.
I want to pay my taxes in December to get the discount and to get the payment in my 2017 IRS filing. This is two years in a row that it’s been late. Why can’t this be fixed?

F-16: A Texas giant
As a guy who has been in Texas only since the mid-1980s, I was unaware of a lot that was included in Max Baker’s F-16 piece; a really enjoyable read!
The F-16 truly is a big success story for which all Fort Worth residents should rightly be “Texas Proud.”
