Athletes, show that you care
Kneeling during the playing of the national anthem is not about showing disrespect for the anthem or the American flag. It’s about injustices carried out against people of color.
How about all those players — football, baseball, etc. — gather themselves together, pool some of their megabucks, rent a large stage, say Jerry’s World (I’m sure he’d give them a discount), invite some of their like-minded entertainers and put on a heartfelt demonstration there?
They could charge admission to defray the cost and maybe even recoup their donations. I’m sure the various media platforms would jump at the chance to broadcast the event. Who could be offended at a sincere expression of concern for our societal failures?
Never miss a local story.
Buy guns at a state-run store?
I find it ironic that the federal government spends close to $1 trillion annually for overall national security while permitting individuals to collect and own private arsenals of lethal weaponry.
Pennsylvania and Utah restrict the purchase of hard liquor to state-run stores. What would the NRA think if guns could be purchased legally only from state-run stores?

EPA silences climate scientists
Three noted climate scientists were denied the ability to speak at the Rhode Island Climate Conference by the EPA.
This is outrageous, and as an American and a constituent of Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, I demand an explanation. The EPA under this administration is behaving as they do in Russia, North Korea or China by not allowing research to be presented to the American people.
Are you willing to be responsible for staying silent on this because you are afraid of this administration? Good Lord, do something about it before it’s too late.

Video tribute for daughter violated standards
I’m so angry with social media and how low the standards have become.
I made a video picture tribute to my daughter with pictures of her from birth to 23 years old to “Butterfly Kisses.” The company said it violated community standards.
There are kids who see sex bondage groups on social media. I saw a photo of one woman’s naked rear with a man about to slap it. But this video violated the standards?
Some social media has slowly become nothing but smut. Unfortunately it is a good way for people to communicate with family friends and meet people.

Is Trump slow in notifying survivors?
Last year’s election losers are going bananas trying to make it a big deal that President Trump did not immediately contact the survivors of some service members killed in action.
During World War II, before Army service, I was a bicycle delivery boy for Postal Telegraph, a competitor of Western Union. When someone was killed in combat we carried a notice of the same in a small envelope to the home of the survivor(s). That was it.
Now some congresswoman in Florida is trying to turn a sad situation into political gain for the losers with whom she wallows.
