North and south Fort Worth voters will face an important decision May 9.
Voters will choose a new District 1 Tarrant County College trustee, representing the downtown campus and much of Fort Worth west of Interstate 35W.
Teresa Ayala is the clear choice.
Ayala, 49, of north Fort Worth, is from a large North Side and Diamond Hill family with a long history of civic service.
Never miss a local story.
As a former TCC student and adjunct professor, Ayala is familiar with the college and students. As a business contract manager for a major computer company, she brings expertise TCC needs.
Josh Barber, 29, of Saginaw is a former TCC honor student and now an energy industry landman.
He presents a generic cost-cutting campaign but seems outright uninterested in the needs of the predominantly Hispanic central Fort Worth district. For example, he favors suburban campuses and opposes operating any downtown campus at all.
The previous two trustees in this seat, Robyn Medina Winnett and J. Pete Zepeda, served 19 and 13 years, respectively. District 1 trustees stay a long time.
The Star-Telegram Editorial Board recommends Teresa Ayala for Tarrant County College board.
