My five cents
1Last week, Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams would not make promises about Jeff Fisher’s future beyond this season. Fisher, who is in his 15th season as coach of the Titans, is under contract through 2011. New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who was an assistant on Adams’ teams in Houston and then Tennessee from 1990-2000, would be the likely successor if Adams fires Fisher after the season.2The Minnesota Vikings could announce a contract extension for Brad Childress during the team’s bye week Nov. 8. Childress’ current contract expires after next season.3Drew Brees admits he wanted to go to Miami during free agency in 2006, but the Dolphins instead traded for Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Since then, Miami has gone through three head coaches and seven quarterbacks. In his 53 games in New Orleans, Brees has 15,310 yards and 101 touchdowns.4Michael Crabtree’s arrival in San Francisco means even less playing time for Brandon Jones, who has barely been on the field anyway since returning from a shoulder injury. Jones, who signed a five-year, $16.5 million free-agent deal in the off-season, has no catches in the two games he has been active.5Kyle Orton isn’t the only big-name Denver Bronco in the final year of his contract. So are defensive end Elvis Dumervil, who leads the NFL with 10 sacks, starting guards Ben Hamilton and Chris Kuper, tight end Tony Scheffler and receiver Brandon Marshall.Who’s hotPittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall has rushed for 304 yards and four touchdowns the past three games, all victories. Willie Parker, who has had a turf toe injury the past three weeks, is averaging 2 yards less per carry than Mendenhall, who has gained an average of 5.1 yards on 68 attempts. Parker, who turns 29 next month, is in the final year of his contract.Who’s notNew York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez lost only two games in high school and only three as the starter at USC. He now is on a three-game losing streak in the NFL. He has thrown one touchdown pass and eight interceptions in the past three games, and he also lost a fumble. His nine turnovers led to 27 points by opponents. After six games, Sanchez has thrown 10 interceptions. He has a 56.7 passer rating.Numbers game16Dropped passes by the Cleveland Browns in the two games since receiver Braylon Edwards was traded to the Jets. Edwards led the NFL with 16 drops in 2008.He said it"I think it went over very well. If anybody was offended by it, I can’t help that. I’m not going to walk around here 0-6 with my tail between my legs. That’s just not my nature. It’s OK to have a sense of humor and have fun. That’s what I did. …I think I’ve said enough about it. If you want to make more about it, you can go ahead and be as critical as you want to be. I was just simply having fun." Embattled Titans coach Jeff Fisher, after wearing a Peyton Manning jersey to a charity function with former Colts coach Tony Dungy.
