Driving on Interstate 35W in north Fort Worth has been a dicey experience for years, but frustration has grown in recent months as expansion of the roadway got underway.
With that in mind, those who plan to use the highway during the next few nights might want to come up with a new plan.
Weather permitting, southbound lanes of I-35W are scheduled to be shut down at U.S. 81/287 from 9 tonight to 6 a.m. Thursday, and again from 9 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday.
Crews will be installing bridge beams for a new ramp from northbound I-35W to U.S. 81/287 (also known as the Decatur cutoff), said Michael Peters, a state Department of Transportation spokesman.
Note the words “weather permitting.” That means the work probably can't be done if rain is falling, which could push the work to Friday night.
Southbound drivers may detour to U.S. 81/287 northbound to Harmon Road to U.S. 81/287 southbound back to I-35W southbound, Peters said.
Police will be on hand to help with traffic flow.
