Speed may have contributed to the motorcycle wreck that killed an Arlington man around 1 a.m. Wednesday in south Fort Worth, police said Thursday.

Jimmy Clements, 35, died 4:28 a.m. at John Peter Smith Hospital, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.

Clements was taken by ambulance from the scene of the wreck, on the southbound service road of I35W, near the intersection with Altamesa Boulevard, according to reports.

Investigators believe Clements, riding a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle, was trying to turn left to continue beneath the interstate, said Sgt. Cynthia Blake, supervisor of the police Traffic Investigation Unit.

Clements apparently lost control of the motorcycle, which continued across a divider and struck a light pole. She said he did not wear a helmet.

"He appeared to be speeding, but we can't say for sure," Blake said.

She explained that investigators don't know if anyone saw the wreck happen. No other vehicles were involved, she added.
