FORT WORTH — Authorities have identified a suspect who was shot and critically injured Monday by an officer responding to a reported business robbery in south Fort Worth, a police spokesman said.

Dale Roy Slaven, 29, faces aggravated robbery charges in connection with an incident at a U-Haul, 3450 Alta Mesa Boulevard. Slaven is recovering from his gunshot wound at a local hospital, according to police. His condition is unknown.

Two officers were en route to the robbery about 1:30 p.m. when they spotted a green Ford Ranger similar to one possibly connected to a series of recent business robberies, said Sgt. Chad Mahaffey, a police spokesman.

The officers stopped the pickup at McCart Avenue and Westcreek Drive and approached the truck from either side. One officer saw the suspect had a large pistol in his hand and was turning to point it in her direction.

The officer "fired one shot with her duty weapon which struck the suspect in the left shoulder at an angle," Mahaffey said.

The suspect drove through the intersection and stopped about two blocks away on Westcreek Drive in a small business parking lot, he said.
