NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- A Hurst motorcyclist died Tuesday after his bike was struck by a sports utility vehicle that attempted to make a U-turn on Davis Boulevard, police said.

The motorcyclist, Michael Butcher, 29, was pronounced dead about 3 p.m., according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's Web site. The accident happened about 1:15 p.m. in the 8500 block of Davis Boulevard. Butcher was northbound on Davis Boulevard when his bike was hit, police said.

The driver and the passengers in the SUV were injured in the accident that happened on Davis Boulevard just north of North Tarrant Parkway. The four -- a man, woman and two children -- were taken to area hospitals, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.

"The SUV had been in a parking lot, it exited going northbound, but then it attempted a U-turn to go southbound," said North Richland Hills Investigator Keith Bauman. "The SUV crossed several lanes of traffic before it hit the motorcyclist."

Police closed part of Davis Boulevard Tuesday as authorities investigated the accident.

Staff writer Mitch Mitchell contributed to this report.
