HASLET -- A fire injured two children Friday at a house in the 100 block of Gammil Street, authorities reported.

The fire was reported about 3 p.m. and about 20 minutes later, a helicopter ambulance was taking one of the children to Parkland Memorial Hospital with second-degree burns on his hands and face, according to reports.

Another child was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center with injuries, according to Mike Thetford, Haslet fire chief. The parents were treated and released at the scene, a responder said. There were no reports of any other injuries.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire started in the kitchen area at the back left corner of the house, although the cause of the fire had not been determined on Friday, Thetford said. The house was gutted by the fire, but no damage estimates had been developed, Thetford said.

Firefighters from Haslet, Saginaw, Roanoke, Blue Mound and Eagle Mountain responded.
