Azle police are investigating a former contract school bus driver who is accused of improper contact with a 15-year-old Aledo High School girl, authorities said today.
The driver, who was not identified pending an arrest, was employed by Dallas County Schools, an intermediate education agency that provides transportation services to nine school districts in Dallas County, and the Aledo school district. The company is not affiliated with Dallas County nor Dallas Independent School District, according to its Web site. Azle Police Chief Steve Myers said Tuesday that the incident occurred Oct. 9 while Aledo was in town playing Azle in a football game. He said the driver made advances and had physical contact with the student, but not intercourse.Aledo Superintendent Don Daniel said the student and a friend alerted officials on Oct. 13 about the alleged incident because the school was closed Oct. 12 for Columbus Day. The district then alerted its police department and the transportation company. Daniel said he was told by the company that the bus driver was terminated shortly afterward for violating policy. No other students were involved in the incident, Daniel said. June Lancarte, Aledo schools public information officer, said the district sought a criminal trespass warrant against the driver to keep him off school property and away from events involving their students immediately after authorities were informed. Aledo school district police turned the investigation over to Azle police because the incident occurred in that jurisdiction.Myers said he expects an arrest by the end of the week after the criminal investigation is complete.According to its Web site, Dallas County Schools transports about 60,000 students to school daily.Elizabeth Zavala, 817-390-7418
