Melissa man injured in plane crash

The pilot of a small plane that crash landed in a field near Waxahachie Saturday morning was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to a Department of Public Safety spokesman.

John William Sledge, of Melissa, took off from Midway Airfield when the plane's engine failed, according to DPS. Sledge was the only person on the aircraft and was listed in stable condition Saturday evening.

The plane went down near Midway Airfield, in the vicinity of Black Champ and Little Branch roads in Ellis County, according to the DPS.
