FORT WORTH -- Construction has begun on a $17 million expansion of Rosedale Street in southeast Fort Worth.
The two-year project will increase Rosedale from four to six lanes with medians along a 1.1-mile stretch between Interstate 35W and U.S. 287, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Transportation.Other features include drainage improvements and a new railroad bridge.The project is a partnership between the city of Fort Worth, Tarrant County and TxDOT. U.S. Rep Michael Burgess said he appreciated how these organizations have worked to begin an "investment made to the East Rosedale Corridor.""I am hopeful," he added, "that the roadway reconstruction, the rebuilding of the Union Pacific Railroad overpass and drainage improvements will assist in eradicating problems that have historically plagued the southeast Fort Worth communities."The project has been called "pedestrian-friendly" because it will include 7-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of Rosedale. Also, the city is planning to install landscaping. "The reconstruction is another important catalyst in the renaissance we are witnessing in the area," said Councilwoman Kathleen Hicks. "This street is not just a corridor through southeast Fort Worth, but an entry into historic neighborhoods that have long waited for urban renewal."TxDOT awarded the $17 million project to Texas Sterling Construction Co. of Houston.
