Grand Prairie police on Thursday were preparing to file a murder charge against a man who is accused in the shooting death of his sister's boyfriend, a police spokesman said.
Police believed that Edward Gutierrez, 21, shot 19-year-old Samer Hamdan on June 24 outside the Gutierrez family home in the 1700 block of Coffeyville Trail.Gutierrez on Thursday was free on a $50,000 bond after he turned himself into Dallas County Sheriff's last weekend.The murder charge would be filed with the Dallas County District Attorney's Office, said Detective John Brimmer, police spokesman.Grand Prairie police issued an arrest warrant for Gutierrez shortly after the shooting.Officers responded at 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday June 24 to a call of "shots fired" outside the Gutierrez home, Brimmer said last week. Officers arrived to find witnesses trying to stop Hamdan's bleeding. Officers began CPR and an ambulance took him to Medical Center of Arlington, Brimmer said at the time.He was pronounced dead at 11:19 p.m. at the hospital, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office.Hamdan was dating Gutierrez's sister and an argument led Gutierrez to arm himself with a pistol, go out into the street and "shoot Hamdan in the chest," Brimmer said last week. A witnesses also said that the two men have had "an ongoing disagreement," Brimmer said last week.
