A Hickory Creek man reported missing Tuesday at Lake Lewisville has not been found and is assumed to have drowned, Denton sheriffs officials said Friday.

Mike Wells Barton, 54, was reported missing by his wife Tuesday afternoon, sheriffs spokesman Tom Reedy said.

The wife said she had received a call from a Lake Dallas marina that her husband’s truck had been left there overnight. She subsequently learned that her husband had not shown up for work.

Texas Department of Wildlife game wardens and deputies from the Denton County Sheriffs Department inititated a search on and around the lake.

Reedy said that Barton's sailboat was discovered grounded in a cove south of Lakewood Village.

Weather records indicated that high winds raked the lake on Monday, with the average wind speed measured at the Denton Airport at 24.2 miles per hour, Reedy said. Gusts reached 47 mph, he said.

Reedy said the search was suspended after three days, although lake authorities will continue looking for the body.
